Kong duck top rope solo Jul 14, 2022 · The following is part one of another chunk on my On the Line book, covering the tricky topic of top rope soloing (TRS). Thanks for all the colorful suggestions in the comments. For soloing, I use a Kong Duck mini-ascender with a paracord sling around my neck to keep the device high on the fixed rope, prevent it from weighting the rope dynamically, and to keep it separate from my Petzl Microtraxion, which I use below the Duck as a backup. It is very popular in the rope access community and is also being used in the construction industry. It is designed and CE certified to be used on 10, 11, and 12 mm static rope and 12 mm no cut lanyards(EN567/UIAA 104). The teeth of these other devices can be rough on your rope. I personally wouldn't buy a static rope for just rope soloing. Feeds perfectly, no need to weight the rope as someone incorrectly assumed.
